EARTH SCIENCE CLUB OF NORTHERN ILLINOIS
The aim of the Earth Science Club of Northern Illinois (ESCONI) is to promote an
interest in the earth sciences. ESCONI was organized in 1949 by a group of 13
people with in the earth sciences. The club has now grown to a membership of
about 250. In addition to the regular monthly meetings, study group meetings are
held in fields of mineralogy, paleontology, micromounts, and lapidary arts.
There is also a Junior group (children under 16). We support two scholarships at
College of Du Page. ESCONI publishes a monthly bulletin, and has regular monthly
field trips. We have a fine library and have published three books. For more

its members in field of earth science, mineralogy, paleontology, and lapidary.
ERAMS was organized in 1962. From time to time, there have been active study
groups in paleontology, minerals, lapidary and metalcraft. There is an annual
auction in the spring and a show in the fall. The club enjoys the hobby

who were interested in rocks and minerals. The club interest expanded to cover
all phases of the earth sciences, as it still does. Because of our divers
interests, we offer a fine opportunity for beginners to enter the hobby. We
welcome all visitors, including beginners. The club meets the second Monday,
from march through November. For more information contact Rhea Britton, 1836
Lilac Lane, Aurora, IL 60506, (630) 896-7133.

established, it has a present membership of about 90, with membership open to
all members and their families, enabling young people to take an active part in
club activities. For more information contact Earl Machart, 8604 S. Moddy Ave.,

in a Chicago Park Field House. The Club hosts an Annual Silent Auction the
second Saturday of March. The club has its own library of books and prints a
monthly bulletin, "Pick and Dop Stick." Members actively collect minerals and
fossils, do lapidary and silver work, as well as participating in educational
activities. The public is invited to meetings held the second Saturday of each
month, at 7:30 pm in the Salvation Army Corps Building, at 4056 N. Pulaski

DES PLAINES VALLEY GEOLOGICAL SOCIETY
The Des Plaines valley Geological Society offers the amateur geologist the
outdoor activity of rock collecting, plus the opportunity of studying the earth
sciences other than geology. Education is the key - stone upon which the society
was founded in 1958. An amateur earth scientist soon finds that this study may
led into a number of somewhat different branches. We amateurs find the earth
science interesting and instructive. Our hobby, in which whole families
participate, is enjoyed by men and women, young and old. For more information
contact Lois Zima, 420 Cordial Dr., Des Plaines, IL 60018, (847) 289-4653
